So what’s the good, bad, and ugly of the alcohol replacement drinks. I started down this track just after Thanksgiving 2022, and I was surprised by some of the things I’d learned. One is that beer drinkers are in great shape for replacements, the wine is no longer grape juice, and there is actually such a thing as non-alcoholic spirits. There are clearly strides being made in order to replace alcoholic beverages with one-to-one replacements. Its creative, but is it any good.

The results are mixed with some very strong beer alternatives, some wine that is drinkable (that is the best I can say for it), and spirits is still one bridge to far for me to even think of crossing.

I tried to distinguish from alcoholic version. This is smooth and creamy with that fresh taste that is what I think of when I think Guinness. It may be a bit different, but I’d need a blind tasting to really determine if it is identical

It wants to be wine. Good on the tongue but a bit sweet. More similar to a Reisling, and better with food than just drinking socially.

Nose is decent but the wine itself tastes watery and a bit off. Doesn’t really taste much like wine. Only drink while eating.

The nose smells like wine. That is about all I’ll give it. If you’re going to drink it, do so with food. It was very watery, but not grape juice sweet, I found that my bottle formed some clots. Very troubling on the tongue.

This brew has all of the hallmarks of an IPA, but is what I expect an โ€œIPA Lightโ€ might taste like. Sound like an oxymoron? Yeah, to me too. And thatโ€™s the thing about it. This brew has the bitter hoppy last I expect, and itโ€™s actually pretty good.it also tastes like beer rather than hoppy flavored water. However, its kind of thin. Is it good enough to drink if you want an IPA taste, sans alcohol. However, nobody who likes IPA and is fine with the alcohol will ever pick this over the real thing.

Perhaps Iโ€™m spoiled by other non-alcoholic beer (although non of which are IPA in style) that tastes just like the real thing. It isnโ€™t bad, its just not particularly good.
